Truist Enjoy Cash Credit Card Pros & Cons

Pros
  • No annual fee
  • Choose the better cash back program for your spending habits
  • Earn a loyalty cash bonus when you redeem rewards into a Truist account
  • No foreign transaction fees
Cons
  • No introductory APR for balance transfers
  • Other cash back cards offer a higher rewards rate

Main Highlight: Flexible Cash Back Rewards

The Truist Enjoy Cash Credit Card offers two options to earn cash back (not both).

You can choose one of the following cash back programs:

  • Unlimited 1.5% on all purchases, with no spending caps
  • 3% cash back on gas and 2% cash back on groceries and utilities with a combined $1,000 monthly spending cap, plus 1% back on all other purchases

Whether it makes sense to choose unlimited cash back or a higher rewards rate can depend on how you spend.

Say you charge $3,000 per month across several spending categories, including gas, travel, groceries, and dining out. Based on an annual spend of $36,000, you'd earn $540 in cash back at the 1.5% rewards rate.

Now, say you charge $400 per month in gas, $600 per month in groceries and utilities and $2,000 per month in miscellaneous purchases. Over the course of a year, you'd earn:

  • $144 in cash back on gas
  • $144 in cash back on groceries and utilities
  • $240 in cash back on miscellaneous purchases

Altogether, you'd earn $528 in cash back, slightly less than what you'd earn with the unlimited 1.5% reward rate.

Now, say you spend $500 per month on gas and $500 per month on groceries and utilities. Your combined cash back earnings on those purchases would total $300 for the year. With the $240 added in from miscellaneous spending, you'd be at $540 in rewards for the year.

The dollar amount you're spending for the year is the same. But rewards earnings might be different, depending on where you spend the most.

Analyzing your credit card statements for the past six months to a year could help you decide which rewards structure fits you best.

Get a Cash Loyalty Bonus When You Redeem to a Truist Account

The Truist Enjoy Cash card doesn't offer an introductory rewards bonus. But you can get a bonus on the back-end when you redeem rewards.

Truist offers a loyalty cash bonus when you redeem rewards into a Truist deposit account. Eligible accounts include Truist checking, savings and money market accounts.

There are three reward tiers to earn the bonus. The one that applies is based on your Truist account balance.

  • Combined balances of $100,000 of greater earn a 50% loyalty bonus
  • Combined balances between $25,000 and $99,999.99 earn a 25% loyalty bonus
  • Combined balances less than $25,000 earn a 10% loyalty bonus

That's an easy way to get more cash rewards from the Truist Enjoy Cash card if you already bank with Truist. It's similar to how the Bank of America Preferred Rewards program works.

If you don't have accounts with Truist, you have other options for redeeming rewards:

Truist doesn't let you deposit cash rewards electronically into a non-Truist account. You'll need at least $25 in rewards to redeem.

What Else Do You Get With the Truist Enjoy Cash Credit Card?

The Truist Enjoy Cash Credit Card's main feature is its rewards program. But there are a few other features and benefits to know about.

The list of benefits includes:

  • Visa Zero Liability protection
  • Customizable card controls
  • Contactless payments
  • Mobile wallet compatibility
  • Visa Signature travel and emergency assistance benefits
  • Travel accident insurance
  • Emergency card replacement
  • Emergency cash disbursement

The Truist Enjoy Cash card isn't designed as a travel credit card. But you could use it to earn cash back while traveling. And you get some built-in protections if you hit a snag on your trip.

The Truist Enjoy Cash Credit Card doesn't have a lot of fees, including no annual fee.

There's also no foreign transaction fee. That means international purchases won't cost you more.

You do get an introductory APR on purchases, though not on balance transfers. You might take advantage of the promotional APR if you're planning a large purchase with your card.

If you're planning a balance transfer, be aware that a fee applies. You'll also pay a fee--and a steep APR--for cash advances.

Truist Enjoy Cash Credit Card vs. Other Rewards Cards

The Truist Enjoy Cash Credit Card is just one of many cash back rewards options.

If you're on the hunt for the best cash back card, here are three other contenders to consider.

Citi Double Cash

The Citi Double Cash Card keeps cash rewards simple.

With this card, you can earn:

  • 1% cash back on purchases as you make them
  • 1% cash back on purchases as you pay them off

To earn the second 1% cash back you have to pay the minimum amount due on time each month. But otherwise, this card makes earning rewards hassle-free.

Cash back rewards are unlimited. You can redeem them for statement credit, direct deposit or a check or as Citi ThankYou points.

There's no annual fee, which is the same as the Truist Enjoy Cash Credit Card. You will, however, pay a 3% foreign transaction fee for international purchases.

Chase Freedom Unlimited

The Chase Freedom Unlimited Card gives you several ways to earn cash back.

With this card, you can earn:

  • 5% back on travel booked through Chase Ultimate Rewards
  • 3% back on dining (including takeout and eligible delivery services)
  • 3% back on drugstore purchases
  • 1.5% back on all other purchases

This card also offers an introductory cash back bonus. You'll need to meet the minimum spending requirement to qualify.

Depending on how you spend, you might be able to earn more cash back with this card compared to the Truist Enjoy Cash card. And you get an introductory APR on both purchases and balance transfers.

There's no annual fee. But you will pay a 3% foreign transaction fee on international purchases.

Capital One Quicksilver Rewards

The Capital One Quicksilver Rewards Card is similar to the Truist Enjoy Cash Credit Card, in that you can earn unlimited rewards.

Specifically, you can earn:

  • unlimited 1.5% cash back on all purchases

That includes travel, dining, gas, groceries--anywhere you spend.

There's no annual fee and no foreign transaction fee. This card also comes with travel accident insurance and emergency travel assistance, which is a plus.

There's an introductory cashback bonus with a low minimum spending requirement. If you want to get some quick cash upfront, that might be tempting.

You can redeem rewards for cash, gift cards, purchases or as a deposit to a PayPal account. They never expire as long as your account is in good standing.

Final Verdict: Should You Apply for the Truist Enjoy Cash Credit Card?

The Truist Enjoy Cash Credit Card is designed for people who want flexibility in how they earn cash back.

This card could be a good option for you if:

  • You want to be able to earn cash back based on how you spend
  • You're looking for a cash back card with no annual fee
  • You bank with Truist and want a chance to earn loyalty cash bonuses

That last point is important. If you already bank with Truist you could get significantly more mileage out of this card thanks to the bonus. For example, $100 in cash back could become $150 if you're at the highest bonus tier.

On the other hand, you might want to check out other cash back cards if you're looking for a different rewards structure or a higher rewards rate.

Regardless of which card you choose, pay attention to the annual fee and the regular variable APR on purchases. Carrying a balance could make any cash back card more expensive if you're paying interest each month.
