Generous Rewards on Everyday Spending

The Navy Federal More Rewards American Express Credit Card features a tiered rewards program that gives you multiple options for earning points.

Here's how rewards break down with this card:

  • Earn 3X points at supermarkets
  • Earn 3X points on gas and transit
  • Earn 3X points at restaurants
  • Earn 1X points on everything else

As you can see, this card is most rewarding when you use it to hit the supermarket, fill up at the pump or dine out.

Rewards are unlimited so the more you spend, the more points you can earn.

Best of all:

There are no rotating bonus categories to keep up with which is great if you have trouble remembering to activate them.

This card isn't ideal for earning miles but that may not matter if you already have a travel rewards card in your wallet. Though it does come with some travel benefits, which we'll cover later.

You can accumulate additional points right off the bat if you qualify for the introductory welcome bonus. There is a minimum spending requirement you'll have to meet.

Once you're ready to redeem rewards earned with this card, you have several options. For example, you can redeem for:

  • Cash
  • Merchandise
  • Gift cards
  • Direct bookings for flights, hotels and car rentals

You can start redeeming cash rewards as soon as you earn them.

Rewards can be redeemed online at the Navy Federal website or through the credit union's mobile app.

Member Deals also offers exclusive access to discounts and promotions, including free shipping from selected partner merchants.

Card Fees

The Navy Federal More Rewards American Express Credit Card doesn't load you up with costly fees.

For example, there's no annual fee or foreign transaction fee if you use your card to make purchases outside the U.S. There's also no fee for balance transfers or cash advances.

The late fees, returned payment fees and returned check fees are also on the lower end of the scale.

Paying less in fees means you don't have to sacrifice part of your rewards earnings to have the card.

Compared to Other Everyday Rewards Cards

The Navy Federal More Rewards American Express Credit Card could be a great choice but it's important to scout out other card options before making a decision.

Here are three other cards that could prove rewarding for everyday spending.

American Express Blue Cash Everyday Card

The may catch your eye if you'd like to earn cash back on everyday purchases in place of points.

With this card, you can earn:

  • 3% cash back at U.S. supermarkets on up to $6,000 in purchases each year, then 1% cash back
  • 3% cash back at U.S. gas stations on up to $6,000 in purchases each year, then 1% cash back
  • 3% cash back on U.S. online retail purchases on up to $6,000 in purchases each year, then 1% cash back
  • Earn 1% cash back on other eligible purchases

Rewards are made available as a statement credit so it's like getting a discount on what you spend.

American Express Blue Cash Preferred Card

The increases your cash back earning potential even more.

With this card, you can earn:

  • 6% cash back at U.S. supermarkets on up to the first $6,000 per year, then 1% cash back
  • 6% cash back on select U.S. streaming subscriptions
  • 3% cash back on transit, including parking, tolls, trains, buses and ridesharing
  • 3% cash back at U.S. gas stations
  • 1% cash back on other eligible purchases

Again, excluding supermarkets your cash back earnings are unlimited. And when you earn cash back, it's in the form of Reward Dollars that can be applied as statement credit.

One thing to note is that this card does have an annual fee of $95. But that may be relatively easy to earn back if you're spending frequently with the card.

U.S. Bank Cash+ Visa Signature Card

The allows you to choose where you earn the most cash back.

With this card, you can earn 5% cash back on any two categories of your choice. You can update your category choices each quarter and the 5% rewards rate applies to the first $2,000 in spending.

You can also earn 2% cash back on one everyday category, like gas stations or grocery stores, plus 1% cash back on all other purchases.

This card could be a good fit for racking up cash back as long as you don't mind keeping up with different categories. There's no annual fee and no minimum amount of rewards to redeem.

If you're a Navy Federal credit union member or you're eligible for membership, it's worth considering whether it fits with your spending style.

On the other hand, you may prefer to earn cash back to points. In that case, you might want to take a closer look at some of the cash back options mentioned above.

With any rewards card, consider the fees, APR for purchases and any limits on earning or redeeming rewards before applying.
